Max Verstappen and Red Bull Are Overwhelming Formula 1 World Championship Odds

Following their victory in Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen and Red Bull are the overwhelming favorites to win the 2022 Formula One World Championship.

In Montreal, Red Bull’s winning streak continued, with reigning Formula One world champion Max Verstappen holding off Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr. in the final laps to win the Canadian Grand Prix.

Red Bull’s seventh win of the 2022 season, and sixth in a row, came at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Verstappen has five of the team’s six victories on that winning streak, putting him in tenth position all-time with 26 victories.

Verstappen was sixth in the driver standings six races ago, having only one racing finish – a win — in three starts this season. He was 46 points behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who led the standings. At the time, Leclerc had two victories and a second-place finish.

That 46-point gap was more than three times the size of any setback Verstappen suffered in 2021, when he never finished lower than second in the standings and narrowly beat Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton to win the championship.

Verstappen has a 95-point lead over Leclerc in the last six races, despite the fact that Leclerc has only one podium finish in that time. In reality, Sergio Perez of Red Bull has passed Leclerc in the rankings, with a win and three more podium places during that time.

Verstappen currently has a 46-point lead over Perez in the standings, with Leclerc trailing by three points. The 24-year-old Dutchman’s 46-point advantage is the most he’s ever held in the driver standings.

Furthermore, with Red Bull 1-2 in the driver standings, they now hold a dominant 76-point lead over Ferrari in the constructor standings, with Mercedes a further 40 points down.

Verstappen’s driver championship lead and Red Bull’s constructor championship lead are reflected in their respective betting odds to win their respective world championships, where both have become overwhelming favorites.

Verstappen, who was never more than a -500 favorite at any point last year (and didn’t become that big of a favorite until much later in the season) before winning his maiden title, is going for his second straight title, while Red Bull are going for their first since 2013.

According to WynnBET, the current odds to win the 2022 world driver championship (top six) are as follows.
