With the news that Sam Ryder will officially start the 2022 Formula 1 Grand Prix, his career is reaching new heights.

Since achieving the UK’s best result in decades at the 2022 Eurovision, the singer of Space Man has experienced incredible success.

The singer is getting ready to perform for a new crowd after performing for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee and being welcomed home as a hero.

This July, the Essex singer-songwriter, who first found success on TikTok, will start the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Sam will sing for millions of people watching live and from home as fans tune in from across the world, with over 400,000 expected visitors the first weekend and 142,000 on race day.

Sam described getting to play at the renowned event as a “honor” when asked about the chance.

The past six months have been a whirlwind, teaching me that you can never dream too high, he added. “From Eurovision to being invited to play the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert,” he concluded.

“I’ve been a tremendous fan of Formula 1 ever since I was a youngster, and to mix that with music and play at such a legendary event in the British sporting calendar is an honor,” said the performer.

The celebrity will sing the national anthem to start the event before making her way to the Main Stage in the Formula 1 Fanzone for the postrace entertainment.

As well as the Eurovision legend, the concert will also feature performances by headline act Mabel, supported by rising star Alfie Templemann.

During the event, interviews with Formula 1 drivers will also be shown on stage.

The news comes shortly after it was revealed the UK could host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, with winners Ukraine unable due to the continued invasion by Russian armed forces.

The BBC is in talks to host one of the largest concerts in the European music calendar after Sam finished second to Kalush Orchestra after first winning the jury vote.

In a statement, the EBU said there was ‘deep regret’ over the decision to not host 2023’s contest in Ukraine, but that the reigning champs ‘will be reflected in next year’s shows.’

Multiple UK cities have put forward their names in the hopes they could host the massive event, with London Mayor Sadiq Khan putting London forward as an option.

Other cities keen to take on the gig include Liverpool and Glasgow, with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon already expressing her desire for the event to come to the city.

However, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has spoken of his wish for Ukraine to keep the gig, after meeting with Zelensky on Friday.
